The Fixlight WordPress plugin runs on your own website. Its checks and fixes run in your browser and on your own server, and send nothing to us. This page covers the one optional part that does: the free AI alt text service, which you turn on yourself in Fixlight → Settings.
What the plugin sends, and when
- Once, when the service is first used: your site address and the plugin version, to create a token for your site.
- Each time you ask for a suggestion: that one image, resized to at most 768 pixels, and its page context: file name, image title, caption, the title of the page it is used on, your site name and your site language.
- Your server's IP address is part of every request, as with any web request.
What we do with it
- The image and context are passed to Google's Gemini API to write the description, and the description is sent back to your site. We use a paid Gemini API account; under Google's terms for paid services, Google does not use this content to improve its products. Google keeps logs for a limited time to detect abuse.
- We do not store images, context or descriptions.
- We store your site address, a one-way hash of your site's token, and how many descriptions your site used each month.
- To stop abuse we count requests per network per day, using a salted one-way hash of the IP address that changes every day. We never store the IP address itself.
- We do not sell or share this data, and we use no tracking or advertising cookies.
Your choices
You can stop using the service at any time by switching AI alt text off, or by using your own API key, in which case images go directly from your server to the provider you chose and never reach us. To have your site's record deleted, email fixlight@fernwaylabs.com from an address on your site's domain or tell us the site address.
